Work in orphanages home

Project Overview

In Kenya, many children and young adults have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS or malaria and have become orphans. These children are often left in the streets to fend for themselves. While working in this project, you can provide your love, care support or any other necessary assistance to the most disadvantaged or poorest children of Kenya. This is extremely rewarding project that is aimed at helping those who need it the most. We work with a number of local orphanages with young children from 2 - 18 years old. Our orphanage projects are located in the most beautiful and charming cities of Kenya i.e. Nairobi and Mombasa and other small towns. These orphanages were established to provide shelter, food and love to the disadvantaged children. But unfortunately, they have severe funding problems, lack basic facilities, proper sanitation and trained manpower. Thus children here are not getting proper attention and care necessary for their development. They are extremely disadvantaged and encounter a lot of hardships in their life. They have never experienced loving, caring and stable relationships. These children are always in need of attention, compassion, hope, support and love form you. If you are willing to bring a smile on their sad faces then you can join our project. You may help children of all ages. However, if you prefer a specific age group, then we will try to arrange that for you.

Responsibilities and Role of a Volunteer:

Generally the type of work allocated to you on this project will depend to an extent on your own abilities and capabilities. You will be involved in various kinds of activities. You need to help the permanent staff member to care for children. You will be teaching children English, science, IT, math or any other subject at which you are good. You can help the children to do their homework after school. You will be helping to feed the children or keep them clean by helping them in bathing, brushing teeth and personal hygiene. You can also assist in basic chores such as cooking, washing & ironing clothes, building structures etc. You also need to help the children to learn basic courtesies and moral education. You can also entertain the children by organizing various games, arts, and music and crafts activities. Depending upon your skills you can also teach these orphan children various skills like cooking, sewing, dancing, typing, drawing, painting and reading etc. You can also bring some light stuff such as colorful books, toys, games etc to make the children happy. With the help of local staff you can also arrange day trips for children. If you have experience in fundraising you may also be asked to work in such area. Thus, just through your support, education and compassion, these children can be empowered to challenge life, poverty and exploitation.

PLEASE NOTE: Our work schedule is flexible. The hours may vary, but normally you will work from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday with the option of working weekends. You may also choose to work in mornings or afternoons only. Work schedule will be provided to you by our local orphanage staff that will help you and support you throughout the project.
